How to Cool Down When Your Temperature is too High
An increase in temperature could be due to any one of a number of reasons. The scorching heat of the sun might affect your body's temperature- although not a serious problem and could subside quickly. High temperature is also a sign that your body is fighting off a virus or bacterial infection. You will experience fever and other symptoms, and you should find a way to bring the temperature down as soon as is possible. If it reaches 40 degrees Celsius, you run the risk of a seizure. Consider these tips once you experience a spike in body temperature.
Take a rest
Regardless of how busy you are, you should stop when you don’t feel well. It doesn’t matter if you have a deadline to meet. Sometimes, exhaustion is the reason behind the sudden increase in temperature. Your body tells you that it needs rest, and you should do it right away.
Drink a lot of water
Another risk that comes with a high fever is dehydration. It's easier for you to get dehydrated when your temperature is too high since your body uses up more water to cope. It's worse if fever comes with other symptoms such as diarrhoea. It makes you even more dehydrated. Make sure that you stick with plain water, and avoid tea and coffee. Carbonated drinks are also a big no. They will worsen your condition.
Wear light, loose fitting clothes
Your body also needs to release that heat trapped inside. Wearing heavy clothes made from thick fabric isn’t ideal. You should wear loose clothing made from light materials.
Place a washcloth on your forehead
Another way to reduce temperature is by placing washcloth on your forehead. You can dip the cloth in cool water before placing it on your forehead.
Take medicine to fight fever
There are over-the-counter pills available to reduce your temperature and improve how you feel. If you can’t head out to buy medicines, you can do it online. If your high fever is due to a bacterial infection, you can buy antibiotics online too. Since it’s a prescription drug, you might have to meet with a doctor virtually first to determine the medicine that could help improve your situation.
See a doctor
If you already did these things and you still feel ill, it’s time to meet with a physician. You could also have other, more serious illnesses. If you have other severe symptoms along with fever, you have more reasons to see your doctor. If your temperature soars to 40 degree Celsius, it's dangerously high. You shouldn't wait further to see your doctor.
An increase in temperature is quite common during hot weather. If you didn't get enough rest, you could also experience this problem. You shouldn't take fever lightly since it's an indicator that you have other health issues. Don't hesitate to consult a physician to find out what’s wrong with you. If you need to undergo tests for confirmation, you should do them.
