Homeopathy and emotions
As a student of homeopathy, we were introduced to the concept of ‘indispositions,’ i.e. the role of our diet and lifestyle in the formation of certain physiological imbalances, that could be corrected by the correction of those contributions.
But it was only after joining the teacher training course at The Yoga Institute, that the true meaning of these indispositions got clear. More importantly, I could relate to the importance of our thoughts affecting first our behaviour, followed by our lifestyle and then our health.
After completing the course, I started teaching anatomy, physiology, and yoga therapy to the yoga teacher trainees. But my life changed, when Dr. Jayadev asked me to take sessions on psychology and counselling for the teacher trainees.
“I do not know anything about counselling,” I told him.
‘That is why I want you to teach it,” he said.
That is when, my true study began by practically corelating the concepts of Psychology, Counselling and Yoga. The philosophical concepts of Raaga and Dwesha started making sense when seen from the perspective of expectations and sensitivities. My experience of homeopathic case taking came handy over here, wherein it made it easy for me to ask the right questions to the Counsellee to help them see, where they could be stuck in their thoughts and thus emotions.
More than 80 - 90% of our anxieties are ‘Covert,’ meaning hidden. Hence, even though I had started counselling, I found the need to develop a program that can help them become more aware of their anxieties in a way that also helps them see a solution for the same. Thus began the Swadhyay program, which is the foundation program for training in Mindfulness and Self-Awareness.
Trying to be aware about oneself is like diving into an ocean of knowledge; if you do not have a road map, you are lost in the vastness of that ocean. I was already introduced to the topic of Chakra Psychology and I was using it to understand human behaviour. However, it had some limitations; the main being that in its traditional form, it gave a hierarchy that would apply only for a theist thus becoming redundant to be used as a module of counselling for the atheist.
Thus began the second journey of over 10 years to develop the module of Integral Chakra Psychology, where it could not only explain but also help resolve psychological issues ranging from Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar Disorders, ADHD, Suicidal Thoughts, Suicidal Tendencies as also the various medical issues arising from these stresses.
Today there is the satisfaction of helping counselees and patients from their so-called incurable conditions; be it Bi-Polar disorders, depression, suicidal tendencies, etc. as also training over a thousand counsellors in this module of Yoga based counselling.
The objective, however is to see Yoga as an established form of intervention available in all hospitals for both psychological as also medical conditions.
