100 years of growth and realisation

By Life Positive

October 2010

For all those who knew and revered Thathvagnani Vethathiri Maharishi, August 14 will always be a special date.

This year, the date was even more special because it marked the 100th birth anniversary of this guru, philosopher and reformer. Qualified as an ayurvedic, siddha and homeopathy practitioner, he established a textile plant that employed over 2,000 people on a profit-sharing basis. Although constantly busy with family and business, he always found time to pursue his deep desire to achieve self-realisation.

A long and fruitful life: Thathvagnani Vethathiri Maharishi
Vethathirium, a centre he established in Aliyar, Tamil Nadu, is not for the exclusive few but for the common masses. The doors of meditation and other spiritual practices are open to women and other disadvantaged groups who were kept out of spirituality. Vethathirium addresses the pressing problems of humanity and brings forth practical solutions at global level which needs to be looked at by all who are interested and looking for a lasting peace in the world.

His teachings incorporate simple daily practices for the mind, body and life force, including basic exercises, yoga and introspection. They provide a better and holistic understanding of the unchanging laws of nature and the present-day society of which we are all a part. With these practices and understanding, one is able to lead a life of peace, health and prosperity. He established the World Community Service Centre in 1958 which has been putting into practice all his teachings. It has about 300 affiliated trusts and 1,500 meditation centres across the world.
