2020 THE MAGIC NUMBER

Dear Reader, 

Welcome to 2020, a year which many feel is going to be magical because of its unique appearance. It has two repeat numbers, a combination which does not occur too frequently in a hundred years. Plenty of numerologists can be found giving their interpretations of what to expect in 2020, most of which sounds pretty good.

However, I believe that the figure simply reflects the possibility of what can be achieved if we work on ourselves and take responsibility. We can surely hope to reap a rich harvest of harmony, peace, and prosperity if we stay committed to self-love and self-growth. But if we choose to replay old patterns of thinking and doing, I am afraid, even 2020 will pass as just another year.

The onus for change is on us, not on our stars.

The lead story for January is on the power of goodness. While all negativity emerges from being focused only on getting our own needs met, for goodness to spread we need to be aware of others—their needs and feelings. Jamuna Rangachari, the diehard do-gooder, has penned the article to impress how important it is to do good deeds to counter the ill effects of negativity prevalent in society. Whether it is helping a young girl in distress, speaking politely to the elderly, feeding the hungry, returning a lost item, planting a tree, being kind to a stranger, or keeping one’s promise, all of these go a long way in making our earth a better place to live in. The quotient of our inner satisfaction is measured in terms of how much we have given and not how much we have gained, and our soul keeps the record of how well we have lived up to this benchmark.
