A nano miracle
September 2012
Ever since I read an article on gratitude, a wonderful feeling engulfs me.
Everyday, at 5 in the morning I go to my home altar and bending down on my knees before Ganesha’s picture, whole-heartedly thank him for the previous day and the one that has just begun. I also ask him daily, “God, what did you see in me to consider me worthy of such a wonderful life?”
In spite of my goal-less schooling and college years and average performance, I have a good job. In spite of neglecting my health, I have a healthy body. In spite of my mistakes in married life, I still have a wonderful family in the form of a caring wife and beautiful children. In spite of… in spite of … in spite of…
It was a hot and sunny afternoon in April when my mother and I were returning from a visit to the doctor. We met the doctor only after three hours of waiting. By then I had exhausted my stock of patience and my body, its energy.
Bored and exhausted, we were travelling by scooter on the Padi Flyover, when my two-wheeler ran out of fuel. The hot afternoon Chennai sun, hunger, a vehicle without fuel on a fly–over, my aged and tired mother…my cup of woes ran over. With no alternative in sight, we began to walk, with my mother holding my scooter as I rolled it further. However, before we took too many steps, a middle-aged man, and a youngster, astride a speeding two-wheeler, stopped and asked, “Any problem?’ When I explained my predicament, they opened their helmet box and to our astonishment, took out a bottle of petrol! I had to force them to accept the money for it.
We were back on the wheels in no time due the timely help given by those fly-over angels. My heart was full of gratitude.
After this incident I have decided never to ask this question, “Why me?” in situations of despair. Because I know that He was, is and will be there for me when I need him most.
When there can be nano-cars, nano-Ipods and nano-technology, why can’t there be nano-miracles in our lives too? So let us identify these nano miracles that happen in our daily lives and be grateful to those who do it.
