A PORTRAIT OF MY MOTHER

Her smile could eclipse the sun, she forgives me when I cannot forgive myself, she loves me no matter what.
This year we were shuffled between two sections of our class. We were a group of five best friends since childhood. Four of them went to the other division and I came into this division. When I went home I started crying. My mother hugged me and repeatedly told me that 'everything would work out '. I clearly remember her words, 'A lion walks alone, sheep walk in a herd.' She did not shout or laugh at me. Instead, she took me out for lunch at my favourite restaurant.
Two of my friends had a fight and were not on talking terms. I loved both my friends very much and knew that it was just their ego which was not letting them solve this misunderstanding. Since I tell my mother everything, I told her about this also. She thought about it for a while and then suggested that I get my friends to talk about it to each other and if it does not get sorted out, I should step out of it and concentrate on more constructive things, like my classes or studies. Otherwise, I would get entangled in the whole thing. So she is very balanced and sorted out.
My mother is very imaginative and creative. When I was about eight years old, we took a trip to the US. Over there, I could not eat a single morsel of food if I did not hear a story! Much to my amazement and wonder, my mother made up a story called Suryamukhi which she narrated for one month! Both day and night! The story was never boring or dull and managed to hold my attention and keep the suspense alive really well. She is an amazing, gifted story teller. Probably that is how she became a teacher!
I love my mother for everything she has done and not done for me. I am who I am, where I am, because of her.
