Emotional freedom techniques(Simple ways for attracting well-being and abundance); Author:Sangeeta Bhagwat; Published by: Wisdom Tree; Pages: 134; Rs. 145

I have long been a votary of EFT because it combines two of my favourite techniques – acupuncture/ acupressure and affirmations. Together it weds the physical and the psychological into one tiny package that, by all accounts, has amazing results. And yet, the very simplicity and brevity of the technique had me hesitating. Surely two minutes of tapping couldn’t dissolve chronic ailments or deepset trauma? Then I began to apply it on myself and the first thing it did was to clear up a longstanding constipation. Encouraged, I experimented further and although I do not have dramatic results to declare, it did inevitably dissolve minor irritants and emotional blocks and returned me to my sunny self.

In this, one of my supports was Sangeeta’s book. Simply and clearly written, with admirable restraint when it comes to the merits of EFT, the book is designed to resemble a website. It has a section on FAQs, a Get Started section and so on. One can go directly to one’s area of interest without necessarily reading the entire book.

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and all it requires us to do is to tap on a sequence of points while uttering a statement which combines a declaration of the problem with an affirmation of love and acceptance of oneself. In other words, one is led to acknowledging the problem and then accepting it. The logic behind the tapping is that all ailments and even stuck emotions are caused by blocks in the energy meridians that run through the body. Freeing the blocks will cause the easy flow of energy which in turn will dissolve stubborn emotional and physical states. Starting with the short-cut technique she moves us on to the full recipe, the choices trio and various other approaches. The range of issues EFT can help with is impressive. In addition to healing, it can also instil positive qualities and bring about desired results. I was particularly taken with her package for self-improvement called SCORE. It requires you to do a SWOT analysis on yourself and then systematically, over a 21-day period, tap away your weaknesses and enhance your strengths. I have not yet begun work on it but it is on my agenda. I would recommend this book to all who wish to take responsibility for their own health and well-being.
