US adopts climate friendly heat pumps

Climate-friendly heat pumps are heating and cooling systems that move heat instead of generating it by burning fuel. They can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially when powered by low-carbon electricity.  This has become very popular now and almost everyone is following this path. With this, one can observe that the mindset of people is changing slowly but steadily. Many types are being made available for the people to pick and choose from. So, this industry too is growing to meet public demands. A clear message is that everyone wishes to take decisions that are friendly to the environment.

Why they're considered climate-friendly
Energy efficient: They typically deliver 3–5 units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed (often expressed as a COP of 3–5).
Lower emissions: They can substantially reduce carbon emissions compared with fossil-fuel boilers, particularly as electricity grids become cleaner.
Heating and cooling: Most models provide both functions, reducing the need for separate systems.
No on-site combustion: They don't burn natural gas, oil, or propane in the home, which also improves indoor air quality.

Refrigerants matter
A heat pump's refrigerant affects its overall climate impact. Newer refrigerants have much lower global warming potential (GWP) than older ones.
Examples include:
R-290 (propane): Very low GWP and increasingly used in residential heat pumps.
R-32: Lower GWP than older refrigerants such as R-410A.
CO? (R-744): Extremely low GWP and often used for certain commercial systems and heat pump water heaters.
Proper installation and end-of-life refrigerant recovery are also important to minimize emissions.
Things to consider before buying
Your local climate (modern cold-climate heat pumps perform well even below freezing).
Home insulation and air sealing.
Installation quality and system sizing.
Electricity prices versus gas or other heating fuels.
Available rebates or incentives in your area.

With so many climate challenges, we all should consider such options to do the least to damage the environment. Enough damage has already been done so we must do our best to reverse it.
We are happy that the US is taking this step and hope others follow suit considering climate change a key factor in their decision making. Even if the time taken to achieve anything could be long at least the direction would be the right one and certainly, all creatures on this planet including our own children would thank us for it.
