A Story of strength, healing and hope
My MS Journey
I am Tapassyaa Gulati, born on 18th December 1978, and today at the age of 48, I proudly look back at a journey filled with challenges, courage, healing, and transformation. My story is not just about Multiple Sclerosis; it is about learning how to rise every single time life tried to pull me down.
Life changed for me at the age of sixteen. In 1995, while enjoying my teenage years like any other young girl, I suddenly began experiencing blurred vision in my left eye. I could not explain the pain or confusion I felt. Doctors in my hometown could not understand the problem because my eyesight tests appeared normal.
Eventually, a family friend advised my parents to consult a specialist in Delhi. After several examinations, doctors discovered swelling in the optic nerves. At that time, the condition was not diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis. I was treated with steroids for nearly a month, and slowly my vision improved. I returned to my normal life, full of dreams and ambition.
I pursued fashion designing and was deeply passionate about creativity. By 1999, I had even won recognition for “The Most Innovative Collection” in my college. But during preparations for a fashion show, I suffered another health episode. Anxiety, weakness, and unexplained symptoms returned, and this time the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis finally entered my life.
In the following years, the disease showed itself in many ways. In 2000, what first seemed like a simple ankle injury later turned out to be another neurological symptom. Fatigue, imbalance, and weakness slowly became part of daily life. Doctors prescribed physiotherapy, exercise, and treatment plans, while I tried to continue living with courage and determination.
I got married in 2005 and entered a beautiful new phase of life. In 2006, my son was born. Around the same time, my MS symptoms became much more severe. I struggled with walking, balancing myself, and even simple activities like holding a bottle or eating steadily. Watching my health decline while trying to care for my baby was emotionally overwhelming.
For many years, I explored different therapies including homeopathy, acupressure, yoga, and alternative healing methods. I was willing to try anything that could help me regain control over my life. In 2011, I faced one of my most difficult challenges when bladder complications caused urinary incontinence, and I had to learn self-catheterization. It was physically and emotionally exhausting.
There were moments of deep sadness and depression. But somewhere inside, I knew I could not allow the illness to define me. I slowly began reconnecting with myself through my passion for baking, healing practices, meditation, and self-growth.
Later, I started allopathic treatment for MS, including injectable medicines and oral therapies. Some helped for a while, but many brought difficult side effects. In 2015, losing my mother to cancer completely shattered me emotionally. That painful period became a turning point in my life.
In 2016, I made a conscious decision to reclaim my strength — mentally, emotionally, and physically. I joined Art of Living happiness programs and advanced spiritual courses. I immersed myself in healing therapies, meditation, pranayama, swimming, and fitness. I learned forgiveness, self-love, and inner acceptance.
I strongly believe in never wasting even a single minute of life. In 2020, I completed a voice-over course. After that, during 2021–22, I started creating meditation audios to help people relax, feel peaceful, and sleep better at night. During the COVID period in 2022, I also pursued Radio Jockey (RJ) courses to continue learning and growing creatively.
Gradually, my life transformed. Exercise became my medicine. Meditation became my strength. Swimming brought freedom back into my body. Today, at 48 years of age, I continue strength training, pranayama, mindful living, and healthy eating as part of my daily routine.
In 2024, I was honoured with the title of Mrs. India Wisdom Ambassador 2024, a moment that became a symbol of my resilience, confidence, and inner strength. Winning this title was not just about beauty or recognition — it was about proving that even after facing immense physical and emotional struggles, a woman can still rise, shine, inspire others, and live life with grace and courage.
Today, my biggest motive in life is to help fellow MS patients. I do sound healing, customized healing sessions, meditation, and emotional support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. Helping others heal, feel stronger, and stay positive gives me immense happiness and satisfaction.
One of the most meaningful parts of my journey is spending time with my fellow MS warriors. I now organize day outings, lunches, and even short vacations for MS friends — sometimes for two beautiful days filled with joy, laughter, freedom, and togetherness.
We sing songs, play games, swim, relax, share stories, and simply enjoy life without fear or limitations. For many of them, these are experiences they once believed were impossible because of Multiple Sclerosis. Seeing them smile, feel confident, and truly live in the moment brings immense happiness to my heart.
These vacations have become some of the most beautiful and fulfilling moments of my life. Helping fellow MS patients step out, feel free, and create happy memories gives my own life a deeper purpose and meaning.
To all my MS friends — thank you for trusting me, inspiring me, and making these journeys so special. Together, we remind each other that life does not stop with MS; it simply teaches us to live more courageously, more joyfully, and more gratefully.
What MS Taught Me
* Never lose hope, even during the darkest moments.
* Stay active — movement heals both body and mind.
* Follow your passion and continue dreaming.
* Healing begins when we accept ourselves with love.
* Gratitude, meditation, and positivity can transform life.
I remain deeply thankful to my family, friends, doctors, and every person who stood beside me during this journey.
My story is not just about illness.
It is about courage, resilience, faith, healing, and choosing life every single day.
