Mobile Apps track pregnancies in rural India
We in urban India need to know more about the amazing work done by some for rural India. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) employees walk in all the village lanes at dawn to check on pregnant mothers, carry registers of newborns and track vaccinations. With their attitude, they are usually considered almost as part of the family.
This is quite a challenging task. As technology is making life easier for most of us, the George Institute for Global Health has now begun a project that centres on an AI-powered mobile application currently being developed to help ASHA workers identify and manage high-risk pregnancies in rural community.
They have adopted a unique approach. Instead of working in a lab and rolling it out to workers as a finished product, the team has taken a bottom-up approach in which ASHAs are co-designers.
We wish them all the best in improving the health of all rural women in India.
