Do actors get influenced by the roles they play?

It would be logical to suppose so, since we become what our dominant thought patterns are. Dilip Kumar, the great tragic hero of the past, once mentioned that after playing a string of tragic heroes, he actually slipped into depression. Now it seems spirituality is equally catching.
Julia Roberts: Going the Hindu way?
After portraying a divorced woman who travels to Italy for food, India for spirituality, and Bali for love, in the movie adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, Eat, Love, Pray, actor Julia Roberts has started practising Hinduism. So impressed is she with concepts such as reincarnation and prayer, that she lit lamps and burnt incense at the makeshift temple at the Indian sets. She also had red sacred threads tied on her children’s wrists and tilaks applied on their foreheads.

Swami Dharamdev of Hari Mandi, Pataudi, where the movie was shot last year, even prayed for the actor’s ailing mother, upon her request. He recalls advising her, “You may choose not to eat or love, but don't forget to pray. Make that part of your life, and not just the film.” Born to Baptist and Catholic parents, Julia said, “I’ve been spoiled with my friends and family in this life. Next time I want to be something quiet and supporting.”
