Go Classical

Go Classical

'The idea of Bandish is to bring classical music to all, especially to the younger generation,' says the blurb on the CD, and the music certainly does exactly this.

Superb classical compositions have been supported by contemporary music played by some of the great musicians of Lahore, while keeping the purity of the raga intact. Khan's voice, trained by his father and uncle, both well-known singers themselves, has an awe-inspiring range, now soaring high and now dipping smoothly to a sudden low, creating a wonderful versatility within each rendition. However, my personal favourite remains the Track 8, Raga Durga, where Khan sings a song of love and devotion. Raga Durga is supposed to evoke a pleasant, somewhat philosophical feeling within the listener and this track does both of these with grace. This is a wonderful CD for anyone who wants to enjoy easy classical music which both relaxes and rejuvenates.
