Lab-tested yoga

March 2016

n a world that demands scientific research-based evidence for anything to claim authenticity, how could yoga, buttressed by international recognition, stay behind?

Kaiyalyadhama Yoga Institute, India’s oldest yoga centre and Patanjali Yogpeeth, India’s largest yoga institute have come together to undertake scientific research in the field of yoga to help get yoga the status of a scientifically certified healing therapy.

Statistics show that people are practising yoga in ever-increasing numbers. As medical and yogic research expands, empirical evidence finds yoga amongst the most effective complementary therapies for a variety of diseases, such as anxiety, heart disease, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and even cancer. But to impress the international community, these findings must be backed by lab-tested evidence. Therefore the collaboration of Kaivalyadhama and Patanjali yogapeeth for yogic research is a welcome step in this direction.

Said Mr. Subodh Tiwari Joint Director-Administration Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute,“We see Patanjali Yogpeeth as excellent partners in collaborating and to do quality research with. We hope that this collaboration will help yoga reach every corner of the country.”

Baba Ramdev of Patanjali Yogpeeth said: “Approximately 100 years ago when no one thought of yoga leave alone research on it, Guru Swami Kuvalyananda started Kaivalyadhama in Amalner in 1917 and then established it in Lonavla in the year 1924. Kailvalyadhama yoga institute is the foremost yoga institute to have pioneered yoga research. They share our ideology and that’s why we thought of combining our energies and doing more research.”

The collaboration aims to rely not only on reports but also on laboratory proof, where the blood samples of the study group would be examined and given a scientific study and analysis to buttress the claims.
