Mind Programming, Author: Eldon Taylor, Published By:Hay House,Pages:338,Rs.1310
Psychologist and spiritual enthusiast Eldon Taylor has based this book on the pros and cons of being able to mould and control the mind. While, on the one hand, this makes it vulnerable to manipulation by others, it also enables the realisation of its full potential.
Taylor is uniquely equipped to pour light on both these aspects since he worked in the field of persuasional psychology before switching to the more beneficial task of unfolding the mind’s potential. Through his work in the advertising world he throws light on some macabre examples of manipulative communication such as the double murder allegedly caused by subliminal messages in the rock band, Judas Priest’s song, Better By You, Better Than Me, as well as various covert US government projects ranging from remote viewing to controlling minds through high frequency radio waves beamed into the atmosphere. Subliminal (below the threshold of human consciousness, i.e. not perceivable) and supraliminal (perceivable, though not perceived by the mind consciously) messages have a very prominent impact on our minds. In this age of super-connectivity, it is certainly troubling to ponder about the level of our vulnerability to unscrupulous elements in the mass media. He also explains how to put these to good use by positively programming the mind, involving the use of softwares, audio tracks and direct affirmations.
Taylor moves to the positive side of the mind in the second part of the book, describing methods he advises to alter behaviour, beliefs, and enable well-being. He describes how his own spiritual path has inspired him to develop techniques such as the 50-Day Plan where you are to live the next 50 days as if they were your last. Though most of these techniques are not new, he provides a comprehensive view. He explains the law of attraction, NLP and other mind techniques and their efficacy. This book has increased my understanding of how the mind works and what affects it. It is definitely a must-read for those who like conspiracy theories and believe in the power of the mind. With a CD that contains specially designed music that relaxes the mind, attached inside, the book turned out to be a good deal.
