Rejuvenate from cancer

The word cancer spells terror to the listeners, not only for the dreaded nature of the disease, but also for the fearsome line of treatment.

Lee Majewski: Pioneering the programme on cancer
drug detoxification With a body weakened by cancer and radiation, and a spirit shrivelled by trauma, returning to normalcy becomes a monumental task. But not anymore.
Lee Mejweski, a yoga practitioner from Toronto, Canada, has come up with a unique detoxification and rejuvenation programme for cancer patients, where they can cleanse their bodies of chemotherapy-induced poison, and heal their minds of depression, confusion and short-term memory loss. A cancer survivor herself, Lee is offering this programme under the aegis of Kaivalyadham Yogic Health Centre, Lonavla. She is also the first beneficiary of this routine which she designed with the help of her guru, Sri Vasudeva in Trinidad and her teachers of yoga and ayurveda in Kaivalyadham.
Majewski was a high flying officer in a big corporate firm in Canada, when an organisational redesign made her quit it. Her newfound freedom gave her the opportunity to pursue her passion for yoga, through a residency at the Kundalini Yoga Ashram in Trinidad. It was there that she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. For its treatment, she went back to Canada, and it was her knowledge of yoga that enabled her to cope with its ongoing discomfort. She felt that her remission had been hastened by her yoga practice and was inspired to design a protocol to enable other survivors to benefit from it. “I realised I was sitting on gold but I knew very little, therefore I came to Kaivalyadham in India last year to study yoga and ayurveda from the horse’s mouth and to understand the context. I am also doing research on this subject.”
Her programme claims to detoxify and rejuvenate a body ravaged by cancer and its severe allopathic treatment. Spread over three weeks, the programme has four components viz, cleansing, rejuvenating, and educating the patients. “Ayurveda has a cleansing protocol called panchkarma, which is based on massage with different oils, steam baths, and enemas if required. The second step of panchkarma is rejuvenation, which includes mud baths, hydrotherapy, local massages and a diet that promotes cell rejuvenation, through the use of organic food and pure juices to strengthen the immune system.
“The goal of the programme is to cleanse the body from toxins of chemotherapy and radiation, to improve the immunity of the cells, enhance the enzyme activity and to avoid the recurrence of pathology. It aims to control the stress mechanism and improve, mental, and physical health,” she adds.
The programme also includes asanas, pranayam, meditation, check-up by qualified doctors, yoga nidra, and chanting of healing mantras, through which gradually the patient not only heals but also become empowered to make significant shifts in his lifestyle once he goes home. It also instructs the patients on the causative factors of cancer, as well as the higher purpose of such a debilitating disease. “Most importantly,” Lee stresses, “the purpose of cancer is to realign the patient to his original spiritual self. It sends you on a path of self-discovery as you begin to question. It forces you to introspect and to wield power from your soul and subtle body, of which perhaps you were ignorant heretofore. It connects you to your divine spiritual existence, which lasts longer than the material body.”
The programme is scheduled to happen from May 5 - 26, 2013.
