Gulmohar Hall of the grand India Habitat Centre was packed to the gills on 16 February as people flocked to the launch of Milk: A Silent Killer, published by Life Positive Publications.

Authored by Dr. N K Sharma, naturopath and founder of Reiki Healing Foundation, it was formally launched amidst huge media presence. Following the launch was a panel discussion on the topic ‘Is milk really a silent killer?’ moderated by Ms Gouran Dhawan Lal, media personality and Publisher, Life Positive. The panel included names like Dr. Paul Pornthep Srinarula, Founder-President, BIVA (Bangkok International Vegetarian Alliance), Dr. Nalini Kaul, Medical Director of Medanta –Medicity, Gurgaon, along with the author, Dr. N K Sharma and D R Kaarthikeyan, President of Life Positive. The controversial nature of the book garnered an interested audience as well.

Dr. Sharma debunked the idea that animal milk was the perfect food for human sustenance and growth. He cautioned that animal milk was designed for its own species, and acts as a toxin for the human system. Instead, he advocated the use of nuts and nut milk along with fruits and vegetables as an appropriate human diet. He added,“We damage our bodies because of ignorance and then spend huge amounts of money to recuperate.”

Admiring Dr. Sharma’s courage in taking up arms against a controversial subject, Mr Kaarthikeyan concluded, “I believe humans are meant to live a healthy life. That is why Life Positive brought out the book as it wanted people to be aware of all kinds of viewpoints. I would suggest each one of you to read the book with an open mind and then take a call.”

The question answer round further added to the already heated atmosphere as the audience fired queries at the panel; some were supportive, while others could not stomach the notion.

The evening concluded with one of the participants, a vegan himself, congratulating Dr. Sharma for the book, adding, “Every notion takes a certain time period to get validation from masses. Hopefully, India will take lesser time to awaken to this fact.”
